This unique social skills immersion experience allows for all the individualized attention that play groups provide with more time and consistency to dive in.
With a maximum of 6 children, Karen Wolfe, MFT and Nancy Wallin, MFT as the lead facilitators, and two therapeutic professionals assisting we dive deeply into what it means to connect to yourself in order to connect to peers. Set in a supportive and fun outdoor environment, we enjoy movement, play, and an expansive sense of what it means to be a kid and a real friend. Children learn specific tools to manage:
Children who participate in this camp experience walk away with new skills and a superhero tool-bag (or rather a cape) from which to draw when challenges arise in the future. We draw from our combined experience of over 37 years in play therapy and training in multiple curriculums that include Michelle Garcia Winner, Dr. Bruce Perry, Dan Siegel, Hand in Hand Parenting, Mindfulness, The Incredible Years, and Music Together to empower the inner super hero of each child to conquer her inner villains to harmonious friendship. The goal of this camp is not only to provide a fun and positive social learning experience, but to transform beliefs and patterns in how your child interacts with peers. What Parents and Kids are Saying:
My son Adam loved Karen Wolfe's summer program and says it was really fun! He especially liked that it was in a playground, and that it was a small group with lots of attention from Karen and the other teachers. Here are his words: "I think it's good because it encourages children to learn and to be polite in a social community. We read a book about a character called Superflex and his enemies,The Unthinkables, and we also did plays about that book. It was fun."
As a parent, I was so impressed at how, in such a short period, Adam began to apply his new skills both at home and at school. At home, Adam became much more tolerant with his brother. I even slept in for the first time in eight years due to lack of sibling conflict in the morning. This was incredible!
At school " I made many more friends," reports Adam. "Karen is nice, and she doesn't get mad when you do something you're not supposed to. ...."
Karen has structured the ideal environment in which to encourage social and emotional growth in children. She is warm, caring, nonjudgmental, and an expert at supporting kids and parents in navigating the ongoing challenges of growing up. Her program and consultation services are highly recommended.
-Ilana L. and Adam
Our family has been working with Karen for the last couple months in her Lafayette office. I have to say that in all honesty compared to ALL the other interventions/methods we've tried (including meds) I have seen the MOST results come about from my child's sessions with her. She is extraordinarily loving, engaged, and knowledgeable about kids and what makes them tick. She really is a natural in every sense of the word. If you have a child who needs a little extra help navigating through the challenges of childhood then a person like Karen can truly change everything for the better. I don't expect that our issues will be solved immediately but it is very nice to see a light at the end of the tunnel ;-).
