I’m Reina and I'm an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who’s dedicated to providing trauma-informed, compassionate, and effective counseling to kids and families.
I’ve been working with children and families for over 20 years—because I genuinely love kids and families! Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats: I’ve been a “substitute parent” providing in-home childcare, worked in preschools and enriched classrooms, supported families in transitional housing centers, and led summer camps. I’ve even taught music and dance to children. You name it, I’ve probably done it with kiddos!
Since 2023, I’ve been providing counseling to children of all ages (including infants) and their families. I’m an attachment-based therapist, and I care deeply about nurturing strong, secure child-caregiver bonds. I hold immense respect for parents and caregivers, and I believe that trust, safety, and connection are foundational to the healing process. In my therapy room, no topic is off-limits. I bring a spirit of nonjudgment and radical acceptance to my work—I’m here to get into the hard stuff with you, as a warm, collaborative partner.
Play is a child’s language. It’s how they (and we as adults!) process emotions, experiences, and relationships. In sessions, I use child-centered play therapy along with modalities like sandtray, role play, and expressive arts. I also incorporate mindfulness and somatic-based interventions through approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I adapt each session to meet your child’s developmental stage, temperament, and unique needs.
I love supporting not only kids but also the adults who care for them. I have a strong interest in parent coaching, and I’m inspired by respectful and evidence-based approaches such as RIE, Hand in Hand Parenting, and Theraplay. I’m especially passionate about helping parents feel empowered, seen, and understood in the therapeutic process. I also enjoy working with schools and am available for real-time counseling or coaching in your child’s school or home setting.
If you’re looking for a therapist who’s playful, experienced, empathetic, and ready to meet your family where you are, I’d love to connect. I’m also available for social skills groups and specialized support for transitions, behavioral challenges, or attachment disruptions.
I’m currently seeing clients at our San Francisco office on Thursdays and Fridays and by Telehealth Monday through Wednesday
